Aqua Passport

CHILDREN can have a splashing time learning to swim at Carmarthenshire's Leisure Centres.

All children joining the Learn to Swim programme are now automatically registered on to the Aqua Passport Scheme.

This is an interactive learning guide developed by Swim Wales. It covers all areas of aquatics at every stage of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming. It has games and activities to help to learn about aquatics. As progress is made through the passport children will progress through Dragon Tot, Dragonfly, Water Dragons and Dragon Skills. As members of the scheme each child will receive their very own passport to chart their progress and a free wet bag.

All the Learn to Swim teaching programmes follow the ASA National Teaching Plan for Swimming, a nationally recognised awards scheme for developing children into excellent swimmers.

The programme teaches water confidence and aquatic skills from an early age, which enables the swimmer to participate in a variety of different aquatic disciplines at a later stage in their development.

County executive board member for leisure services, Cllr Clive Scourfield, said: “If you are keen for your children to learn to swim Aqua Sir Gâr’s Learn to Swim programme is the best possible way to get in the splash of things.

“Our programme is fun and progressive. As children move from stage to stage and become more confident, the skills become more challenging and they are introduced to new skills as they become better.

“Carmarthenshire boasts some of the best beaches in Wales and it is incumbent on us as a council to make sure we provide the opportunity for parents to get their children water confident and swimming through our leisure centres at the earliest possible opportunity. The Learn to Swim programme is designed to do just that.”

Parents are being encouraged to book immediately because there are no waiting lists.

Payment by direct debit ensures automatic entry onto the Aqua Passport Scheme
